Masahiro Sasabe
Ph.D. (Information Science) / Associate Professor

Biography

Masahiro Sasabe received the B.S., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees from Osaka University, Japan, in 2001, 2003, and 2006, respectively. He was an Assistant Professor with the Cybermedia Center, Osaka University from 2004 to 2007, an Assistant Professor of Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University from 2007 to 2014. He is currently an Associate Professor of Division of Information Science, Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan.

Research Themes

Our human beings are supported by diverse social systems, most of which is realized under complex interactions among many and unspecified users. For example, in case of the streaming services over the Internet, access concentration on popular contents will degrade the quality of experience (QoE), e.g., increase of play-out delay, occurrence of jitter, and/or deterioration of video quality. Another example is traffic jam in driving, which will be caused by individuals' rational route selection. My main research interest is to achieve sustainable social systems under such competitive behavior among individuals. I usually utilize mathematical models, e.g., mathematical optimization for optimal system design and game theoretic approaches for distributed control.
